We met two amazing young entrepreneurs, Tia Brown and Kyle Brown, at a local Airbnb meetup recently – and they probably didn’t even get two sentences out of their mouths before we fell head over heels for these two!
So, today, we want to introduce you to this amazing power couple. They share how and why they took action to start the business, what it takes to run the entire business a two-person operation, and how Airbnb has helped finance new real estate purchases and their wedding.

So why is hosting an Airbnb Experience such an incredible opportunity?! Well, it doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you don’t have to own property, you don’t have to own a business, and you can make it anything from a side hustle to a full-time entrepreneurial venture. But it’s a lot of hard work, so thankfully, we have people like Ria who can share what it takes to make your guest’s Airbnb Experience magical.

We’ve been spying on today’s guests on Instagram for a long time (@theboxhop – check it out), and we are so excited to finally be able to chat with them!!
Emily and Seth Britt live in Columbus, and they love it, but they also yearn for a space where they can return to return to their rural roots. So Seth followed his long-time dream to build a shipping container home in one of their favorite places: the Hocking Hills of Ohio. It took one year of planning, three shipping containers, seven months of sweat and tears, a lot of help, and a whole lot of late nights, but they finally did it... and it is BEAUTIFUL!
Their desire is to now share this home and dream with others – and we are so excited to share them with you!
Ashley Cordray and Michael Cordray own a real estate renovation company that specializes in restoring homes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They are working with homes near the brink of destruction in their home town of Galveston, Texas, with hopes of restoring the island’s history and architectural styles. We recorded this episode from what is soon to be their first Airbnb, The Kettle House, which is a local landmark (it’s so famous that it’s a square in the local version of Monopoly).
But here’s what makes the Cordrays two even cooler: their incredible story!!
They met in 2010, at work, and then started dating in 2011. Two months later, they decided to move in together and purchase a fixer-upper in Galveston. In 2015, they were approached by a production company who knew they had the right stuff for a TV show – and Big Texas Fix is about to start airing its first season on the HGTV in June 2019 (you...
Today we’re talking to Chris Carlone from TidyHost, an automated housekeeping solution exclusively for short-term rentals. We’ve talked about it on the show before, but keeping your rental spaces clean is a non-negotiable – no exceptions!
So, whether you’re trying to outsource your cleaning and turnover or you’re DIYing everything, Chris has some great advice for getting all of the laundry done, what cleaning supplies you should use and keep the house stocked with, why you need to stage your space before every guest, training new cleaners if you do outsource, and the critical difference between residential and short-term cleaners.
Together, we’ve hosted more than 2,000 guests throughout our careers – and we’ve learned a lot, but let us tell you, we definitely stumbled a few times along the way! So, today, we’re going to share the five things we WISH we had known when we started building our short-term rental businesses.
We discuss instant booking, the beauty of a single-night stay, dynamic pricing, outsourcing cleaning or co-hosting (even if you just run one unit), and killing the physical key.
Superhost Christine Kimball owns The Corner House in Columbus, and today, we talk about why she pivoted from long-term rentals to short-term rentals – and why she loves it!
Christine has always liked hosting and decorating, and she had considered becoming an Airbnb host for a long time, but she just didn’t think she had enough time. However, after seeing the success of some friends and stalking some other hosts on Instagram, she decided to take the plunge.
Christine and her husband actually already own three properties (including one they live in), and they’ve been experimenting with different ways to make passive income through real estate. They’ve done quick house flipping, long-term house flipping, and long-term rentals, but they just started experimenting with short-term rentals. There’s the potential for more income with short-term rentals, but also more work and risk – but Christine can already see this being...
People traveling for business make great guests: they almost never wreck your place, they’re often more concerned about convenience than saving a few bucks, and best of all, they can become repeat guests!
Today, we talk about how you can make your space more attractive for these guests, how you can find out more about potential repeat guests, and what goes into negotiating corporate/business pricing.
Today, instead of talking to a Super Host about what they’ve done to create an incredible experience on Airbnb, we’re talking to a Super Guest! Hayden Lee is the host of Travel Stories Podcast, and he’s been travelling pretty much full-time since 2013. He recently became the first person to ever visit every country in mainland Europe on his motorcycle – during which he stayed in a lot of Airbnbs – and now he’s living in Brazil for a few months!
We mine everything we can learn from his best and worst Airbnb experiences, and as an added bonus, he leaves us with an inspirational message that we know will inspire you to get up and take a step towards your dream!
We recently had the opportunity to check out Elliott and Lauren May’s renovated 100-year-old barn – and oh boy, do we have a lot to say about this space! A beautiful marriage of the old and new, this rustic barn looks stunning with splashes of a Scandinavian style and modern decor (really, you have to look at the pictures).
We talk all about why they decided to renovate the space, what went into doing that, how they’re making money off of the space in addition to renting it out on Airbnb, how they’re marketing the barn on Instagram, and what they’re doing with paid advertising online.
