113. Start Your STR Business with an Investment Tribe with Travis Smith, Founder & CEO of Tribevest

Uncategorized May 20, 2021

You’re all here because you want to learn more about the short term rental industry. Maybe you want to get involved, but don’t know how to get started. Turns out, it might be that the best way to get into the world of short-term rentals isn’t to own, but to invest.

Travis Smith is the founder and CEO of Tribevest, which solves a major problem in the world of group investing by making it simple to create and manage your own investment group. Travis and his brothers were looking for ways to be less dependent on their incomes. During the Great Recession, they saw people all around them losing their jobs, and they identified real estate as a way to hack wealth without derailing their careers. They had no experience or education in the field at that time, but their biggest problem was a lack of upfront capital. By going in together as an investor tribe, they secured a future they could never have dreamed of.

The best part about this place is the location. A lot of people are itching to travel this summer and will want to go visit the National Parks.

Fun fact: Netty once worked at a resort at Glacier National Park. Looks like we'll have to come back to visit and stay here! Go give Leigh a like and a follow to check out her beautiful space!

112. How FemmeBnb Helps Women Travel Safe & Comfortably with Yaa Birago

Uncategorized May 13, 2021

Solo travel is a rising trend, but it can be dangerous — especially for women.

Yaa Birago is a tech entrepreneur, philanthropist, mentor, and the co-founder and CEO of FemmeBnb, the first social networking vacation and STR platform for women, by women. FemmeBnb allows women to rent their spaces to other women in the hopes of maximizing safety, peace-of-mind, and comfort. It also provides users with an AI-powered travel companion, to help plan their trip from start to finish.

We discuss how FemmeBnb brought the idea of creating a secure space for women that alleviates travel-anxieties to fruition, and the company’s pay-it-forward initiative which provides menstrual products to girls in Africa in an effort to help eradicate poverty.

111. Giving a Historic Home New Life with James Gray

Uncategorized May 06, 2021

If you had the opportunity to purchase a historic home, what would you do with it? James and Jacob, created an Airbnb rental, a country retreat, and a hub for fine dining, photoshoots, weddings, and more.

The two now own Farrand Hall, a historic estate built by Henry K. Farrand in the magic capital of the world: Colon, Michigan. Farrand Hall was added to Michigan State Preservation Office’s List of Historic Sites in 1971 and The National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Both James and Jacob live and work in Chicago, but expect to make Farrand Hall their full-time jobs very soon.

We’re passionate about hosting on Thanks for Visiting, but James takes it to a whole new level. He talks about how he and Jacob grew Farrand Hall into a multi-faceted business with rentals, events, and more. Hear the details of how he hires professional chefs to host unique dinner events at the property, the challenges with turnover after, and the secret behind their signature...

#STRShareSunday: Duck Pond A-Frame

strsharesunday May 02, 2021

It's time for #strsharesunday and today we are featuring Duck Pond A-Frame!

Yes... this is as interesting as it sounds! Hosted by our friend Wendy, this Dutch a-frame isn't something you'd think you would find in Arizona. Wendy does an amazing job with furniture curation and has a lot of eclectic spaces, but this one really catches your eye (we LOVE the rainbow of glassware)!

This one-of-a-kind stay has a lot of visual interest. Remember: how you take your photos is how you sell someone on booking with you. Check out her IG and her AirBnB listing, and you'll find that not only are her photos amazing, but you really need to go through and read about her space, line-by-line. Wendy really lets you know what she has in every room, what you can enjoy. Her copy is top-notch and she is also SUPER clear with her rules.

110. 7 Tips to Ensure Pool & Spa Safety with Justin Ford

Uncategorized Apr 29, 2021

Safety is such an important component of the rental industry. You’re inviting people who aren’t familiar with the space and carry responsibility for their safety while they stay. We’re talking to our Safety Captain, Justin Ford, once again to discuss safety when it comes to pools and spas.

With summer just around the corner and the world opening up after the pandemic, people are itching to get out there, relax, and cool off. Before they do, Justin has seven tips for hosts and owners to keep their pools and spas safe for guests.

Note that we are discussing how to keep your pools, hot tubs, and spas safe. We are not trying to discourage you from having one of these amenities at your property. These are just the key considerations to keep in mind to ensure applicable short term rentals are as safe as possible.

Electrical Inspection

In Palm Springs, California, this is actually a legal requirement. If you want to list your property with a pool there, you...

#STRShareSunday: Stay In Crozet

strsharesunday Apr 25, 2021

It's time for #strsharesunday and today we are featuring Stay in Crozet!

They have 4 properties, which include two lofts and a cottage, so we love the variety of properties you can stay at.

What really stuck out to us immediately is their direct booking site, and you can facebook message them FROM their site! We have not seen that! If you don't use a site like AirBnB to book, Facebook is a great way to communicate with your guests, and having it as a plugin (maybe that's not the right terminology here... but we're trying !) right on your website makes it super easy!

We love their tagline: "Never underestimate the joy of relaxation" and how it's front and center on their site. (psst... We TOTALLY agree!)

Go check out their site, give them a follow on IG, and stay with them the next time you are in Virginia!

His story is relatable for anyone looking to start their own STR journey and shows what’s possible in just a few years.

#STRShareSunday: Dusty Rose

strsharesunday Apr 18, 2021

It's time for #strsharesunday and today we are featuring Dusty Rose!

Let's cut to the chase here... where did their name come from? Your hosts are Dustin (aka Dusty) and Anna Rose (aka Rose). Clever, right!? This rental is located in St. Mary, Georgia.

Anna is an environmental historian, so she has taken that and made sure it's infused in their rental to make sure it's as sustainable as possible.

Here are a few things they're doing:

Bamboo cutting board (did you know bamboo can grow 3 feet in 24 hours? Woah!)

Organic linens dyed with pomegranate

Nest thermostats with eco mode

Providing reusable bags with their logo (double points for branding)

Dryer balls instead of dryer sheets

Makeup washcloths

Public Goods reusable shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles (healthy ingredients with nothing to hide)

They have a fire pit in their backyard, and they have positioned a movie screen on their shed. Who wouldn't want to relax by the fire and throw on their favorite movie!?...
