#STRShareSunday: The Trendy Tudor

strsharesunday Apr 03, 2022

It's time for #strsharesunday! Today we are sharing The Trendy Tudor!

This Oklahoma City rental just opened up recently and the have the most beautiful design and aesthetic. Seriously... we want to come chill here!

But there's something that they did that we really love. As hosts, we want you to know how much impact you can have, not just on your guests, but in your local community. As they opened, they did a series of giveaways: they gave away gift cards to local businesses close to the home. What a great way to introduce yourself to those businesses and to the neighborhood, and to give back before you even really get started.

How do YOU give back to your community?

#STRShareSunday: A-Frame Lake Ozark

strsharesunday Mar 27, 2022

It's time for #strsharesunday! Today we are sharing A-Frame Lake Ozark!

If you can guess by the name, this is a gorgeous little A-frame located in the Ozarks.

Here are a couple things we want to highlight about this property:

1. They went SUPER bold with the yellow door which creates a huge contrast to the dark exterior. This makes it really easy for guests to find, and the check-in experience can be really nerve wracking for guests. If you can help ease that in any way for your guests, do it!

2. We don't see this too often: they have a "drop zone" in the house and a secondary refrigerator, which is *super* convenient for a lake house that can sleep up to 8 people. This is something you may not initially think of! Some beach houses have this too. A lot of guests check in early and have their groceries with them, so having a space for guests to put their fresh groceries so they can enjoy the beach or the lake is such a great idea.

They're pretty new to the STR scene, so go check...

156. Scaling Your Business with Investor Capital with Jeff Brown

Uncategorized Mar 24, 2022

We’re piggybacking off of a previous show, Episode 62. Creating an Unforgettable Airbnb Experience: Star Wars Edition with Bryndee Barton, which was all about creating thematic vacation rentals.

Jeff Brown is here to teach us how to dream big and scale our businesses with investor capital. He’s the co-founder of Loma Homes, a vacation rental brand that specializes in unique themed experiences.

Jeff started his career at Target corporate headquarters as an analyst and gradually worked his way into ecommerce companies like Overstock and 1800 Contacts until he was approached by a startup called One Click Retail. There, he became the Director of Operations and helped the company grow to over 100+ employees and achieve 70% profit margins.

After 6 years at One Click Retail and 10 years in managing business, Jeff has left to pursue his passions in entrepreneurship and real estate. If he’s not busy doing more with less, you’ll usually find him swimming through Excel...

#STRShareSunday: MI Home Away

strsharesunday Mar 20, 2022

It's time for #strsharesunday! Today we are sharing MI Home Away!

Eric and Liz are new to hosting, but they are already crushing it! (Have you been listening to the pod for awhile, Eric and Liz)?

We feel so drawn to this all-seasons cottage, located on a 10 acre plot of land in Michigan. We love what they've done with their instagram: they have taken you through the renovation of the space, they have their reviews, they have great shots of their rental, and what is available around town to do or to eat.

We love that they've woven in who they are as hosts, the town they are located in, and they have incorporated color beautifully in their design. Just by looking at the first 5 photos on their listing, we're sold. We're ready to come visit, and I bet you will be too!

Oh, and it's pet friendly too! We love to see the pups!

155. Taking Your Short-Term Rental from Job to Business with Kylan Pimley

Uncategorized Mar 17, 2022

One thing nobody tells you when you start your hosting journey is that you’re going to have to get really, really good at revenue management. Well, scratch that, because we’re going to tell you now – with a little help from a member of our Hosting Business Mastery group, Kylan Pimley!

Kylan Pimley began her property management career in 2006 after she and her husband bought their first investment property, a duplex. It wasn't until 2018, after adding and remodeling eight more long-term rental properties, that Kylan started including short-term rental properties into their portfolio, using her family's second home as the experiment. She wanted visitors to have access to everything special about The Gorge that she enjoyed growing up.

Kylan created Go Gorge Getaways, which now offers two short-term rental properties in the Columbia River Gorge. Along with growing Go Gorge Getaways, she also oversees their long-term rental properties and manages marketing for...

#STRShareSunday: Coastal Cedar Sanctuary

strsharesunday Mar 13, 2022

It's time for #strsharesunday! Today we are sharing Coastal Cedar Sanctuary!

We never knew how much we wanted to go to Rockaway Beach, Oregon until checking out this space. A few things that caught our eye...

Their outdoor sauna! We're seeing more and more of these, and they're not as expensive as you might think! A hot tub is kind of an old school amenity, but it seems like the sauna is the new kid on the block.

We also love that in their listing, they used four different perspectives of why someone may be visiting: whether you're visiting with your girls for a girls-only getaway, a romantic getaway with your special someone, a fishing trip with the guys, or a family trip with the kids, they painted such a wonderful picture and showed how their space is perfect for anyone. Well done! Go give them some love on the 'gram!

154. Keeping Your STR Business Legally Protected with Scott Brown

Uncategorized Mar 10, 2022

Look, we get it – legal talk isn’t usually the most exciting thing in the world, but I’ll bet before our Safety Captain, Justin Ford, joined us on the show, you’d have said the same thing about safety inspections! Place your trust in us once again; we promise this conversation is a fun one.

And by “we,” I mean Scott Brown, an attorney out of Columbus, Ohio who specializes in intellectual property law for startups and entrepreneurs. He’s been working with us to make sure our business is legally covered and he’s familiar with the greater real estate industry as well.

We talk about having your rental terms worked out and drafted clearly, general corporate structure for buying property for commercial use, partnership agreements for co-investments or starting a business with others, and how your legal support needs to work in tandem with property insurance and a good accountant for best long term business results of any kind.

#STRShareSunday: Far Out Cottage

strsharesunday Mar 06, 2022

It's time for #strsharesunday! Today we are sharing Far Out Cottage.

This rental is aptly named because it is indeed Far Out! Check out their instagram and their airbnb listing! This 1940s cottage is located right outside of Portland and has kept a lot of that historic charm. The tile in the bathroom is pink and mint green, the kitchen is like stepping into a 1950s time capsule, the furniture is from the 1960s... we just love the vintage charm!

But what we really love is that host Annie is upfront and transparent about it being a vintage space. Her guests know before they book what to expect.

This is such a cute, colorful, unique space!

Remember listeners: if you buy that property that has a ton of historic charm, don't fight it! Don't think you have to modernize it all the time, and Far Out Cottage is a perfect example of how!
