192. How To Organize Your Work (and Life) As An STR Owner (AMA)

ama Sep 26, 2022

Welcome to another Ask Me Anything (Ask Us Anything?) episode! Each week we’ll answer your questions on STR, real estate, OTAs, and everything in between.

Kelsey (@StayJandK) asks:

How do you set up your Workday or your work week? There’s so many things I know I could (or should) be doing, but some days it’s so much that I get analysis paralysis. How do you structure things on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, and how do you know when it’s time to delegate tasks out to your team?

#STRShareSunday: Magnolia Cottage Farm Stay

#strsharesunday Sep 25, 2022

It’s time for #strsharesunday! Today we are sharing Magnolia Cottage Farmstay

This sprawling 70 acre property is in Lancaster, PA. She caters to large families who come together for reunions and family getaways. So often when we think of short-term rentals, we think of vacation spots and smaller places, not necessarily larger plots of land.

We also tend to get wrapped up in the amenities on the interior of a space, but we think that in this case, the biggest amenity is how expansive their property is and how much acreage they have with nothing on it! Check out their photos to see this gorgeous property.

Whatever your dream is and whatever experience you want to create with your properties... you can make it happen!

191. Hustle Is Not Enough: Attention to Detail and Creating Your Niche in STR

Uncategorized Sep 22, 2022

TJ Tijani immigrated from Nigeria, landed in Houston, and his story is a whirlwind of hustle and entrepreneurship. He grew up with a single mom who was raising 5 kids, and watching her tenacity and grit inspired TJ to be the first in my extended family to graduate college and get a job as an engineer.

But he hated the 9-5 grind, and took matters into his own hands, walking away from his job and jumping head first into the short-term rental business. After lots of studying and trial & error, TJ now runs a successful STR empire, and teaches others how to do the same.

190. Comparing Your STR House Rules with Airbnb’s Guest Policies (AMA)

ama Sep 19, 2022

Welcome to another Ask Me Anything (Ask Us Anything?) episode! Each week we’ll answer your questions on STR, real estate, OTAs, and everything in between.

Courtney asks:

We recently had a situation with Airbnb in which a guest had not signed a rental agreement within 48 hours of booking, which is specified in our listing’s rules. Airbnb refused to uphold our rule, and stated that the guests had until the moment of check-in to meet our requirement of signing the rental agreement.

Airbnb has very much sided with guests, claiming that they would not cancel the reservation on their end until that moment of check-in, and even going so far as to threaten me about canceling the reservation as a host because of their new policy (which just took effect in August).

How do you go about ensuring that guests sign a rental agreement when Airbnb won't uphold your rules?

Uncategorized Sep 15, 2022

Safety is one of the first things to think about in short term rentals, and our favorite safety expert, Justin Ford, is back on the show to help make sure our guests go home only with great memories.

Justin recently attended the National Fire Protection conference in Boston, and as no surprise, he’s brought back with him a slew of new products and recommendations for fire safety.
